Dear Reader,
With the last bits of heat leaving New York City, I find myself yearning for a time and place that’s far away because it’s in the past. We can never get back the months we spent enjoying ourselves so it’s important to always stay in the moment. That way the present is savored and all the pleasure that can come from what we’re doing is experienced. Otherwise, we’re left with a hazy picture of something we wish was clearer in our hearts and in our heads.
So, I’ve started to dream…
To see you out there dancing in the sun. Bird on your chest, collared shirt, and the loveliest sunset. We were there once, two different people during a time when travel was scandal but we still wanted to get our hair wet. Slaty seas, never a cool breeze only the electric hues of the rose colored glasses we wore. Pretending there was nothing more to life than what we had before our feet in the sand. To see you dance.
A song can transcend and bring two people together from opposite ends. Are we under the same rays? Does your face warm at a turn in this moment I’m waiting? For it feels like no other will be able to scoop me up and take me in their arms. When the beat drops I stop to see if I can recognize your eyes. Clear skies still feel dark without your light.
There’s a beach somewhere and we’re together in the sun. Music plays, it’s a whole day but we pass it by like This Is Life. Waves wash the shore. Sand stays for memories of times we keep with us in crevices for each other. Together we stick like a crab in its shell—our own little home, our own little hell.
Forever grooving,
S.E. Dillard
